Within each fundraising phase, Maui's Mana works in collaboration with local leaders (including Tano & Angela Taitano), partnering to collectively identify potential donation recipients impacted by the Maui fires & disperse donated funds amongst the many recipient families on a needs basis, prioritizing the families with the most critical needs first. Many factors are considered for each family in order to utilize all donations in the most effective way & to assist as many families as possible at any given time.
International Missions Support Inc. (referred to as IMS) was founded in 2002 by Leon and Teresa Shearer (the parents of Maui’s Mana fundraising organizer, Leah Porter). IMS has supported communities all over the world for over 20 years with their mission to teach, encourage, and support others through spiritual, physical, emotional, and financial resources. Although Teresa has faced serious personal health issues, the tragic loss of her son (Luke) in 2019, and the loss of her husband and work partner (Leon) in 2020 after his long battle with cancer, Teresa remains committed to the mission she and Leon first committed to over 45 years ago. She continues to run IMS in order to provide support and help to communities around the world, most recently supporting in Vietnam, India, the Philippines, Mexico, Indonesia, and domestic needs within the United States. Leah also provides support with IMS operations as needed to carry forward her parents' lifelong mission to spread hope and help to communities around the world.
